The general thought here will be that Alaska is doing this because of the new Delta rules. Alaska is sticking it to Delta when it hurts. But the reality is Alaska can simply not compete with Delta nationwide. They can compete in the PNW and mainly Seattle. Alaska is targeting a Delta hub with a targeted attack.
