Plans of the new Olympic Complex. As most people know, the Athens Olympic Sports Complex ( AOSC) went through a large scale upgrading from 2002 to 2004, in view of the Olympic Games. The planning of this project was undertaken by the famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.
Calatrava reorganized the existing 100-hectare area and designed a new roof for the Olympic Stadium; a new roof and refurbishing of the Velodrome; entrance plazas; and entrance canopies for the entire complex.
Drawings, detailed plans and large - format photos facilitate an understanding of the carefully selected examples and are used to analyse stadium construction in terms of its history, planning and architecture.
Selected Works. The return of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to Greece was received with great excitement around the world, however, there was also great anxiety because the existing facilities was far from adequate and the city lacked experience with constructing such large-scale projects.
