Selected Works. The return of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to Greece was received with great excitement around the world, however, there was also great anxiety because the existing facilities was far from adequate and the city lacked experience with constructing such large-scale projects.

Calatrava reorganized the existing 100-hectare area and designed a new roof for the Olympic Stadium; a new roof and refurbishing of the Velodrome; entrance plazas; and entrance canopies for the entire complex.
The Sports Complex includes the Olympic Stadium in Athens, the Olympic Hall roof, the Olympic Aquatic Center, the sixteen courts of the Olympic Tennis Center and the Olympic Velodrome. A major boulevard called Central Axis organizes access to the various stadiums.
The Olympic Stadium of Athens ‘Spyros Louis’ is a part of the Athens Olympic Sports Complex. It is named after the first modern Olympic marathon race winner in 1896, Spyros Louis. The stadium hosts one of the biggest sport clubs in Greece, AEK Athens.
