Working service dogs prescribed by the Department of Veterans Affairs are provided veterinary care and equipment through the VA Prosthetic & Sensory Aids Service. However, the VA does not pay for the dog or for boarding, grooming, food or other routine expenses.
Semper K9 is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit veterans charity that provides custom-trained service dogs to wounded veterans at no cost.
K9 provides free food and basic medical care for the life of the service dog. The lifesaving efforts of K9s for Veterans are doubled by the exclusive use of rescue dogs from kill shelters to train as service dogs for our veterans.
