Has there ever been a telling by a doctor, worker, or anyone on the scene of Dale Earnhardt’s fatal crash? I remember Sid Watkins describing arriving on Ayrton Senna crash and what he saw/experienced.
The fact that I've done videos from the stands at Daytona that look exactly like this for years, this is weird for me to watch. I grew up a big dale earnhardt fan to. I stopped watching NASCAR for 22 years after that crash, and seeing it again was cathartic. I couldn't process it at 16 years old, and now I can.
Has anyone found any video out there that recreates what happened in the cockpit from a cockpit view? I've seen the on-board camera and to me, it still doesn't seem like it would be fatal. I'm trying my best to understand the forces involved in his accident and why it would've been fatal.
Schrader later said that the moment he saw Dale in the car he was sure Dale was dead. There's even an interview with Schrader immediately after the race (Dale died on one of the last laps), but still too soon for any announcements of dale's status.
I believe this was the last image of Dale in the closing laps of the race. Crazy to see just how small the cockpits seemed, and how close the drivers were to the doors. Not to mention open faced helmets.
