Expedia is 100% scam. I could not even contest charges with credit card company Expedia refuses to issue refunds when third party vendors will abuse you and nickel n dime you and request entire car insurance contracts just to charge you misc fees.

I appreciate that this is probably too late, but the only thing I can recommend to people in this situation is emailing Expedia if you can't get through via the phone lines. That way you have written evidence of trying to cancel the ticket within the 24 hour time frame.
