Spirit is my favorite airline, cheapest fares around. They’re perfectly fine to fly with just pack light, bring a snack and entertainment of your own and you’ll be ok. They’re also one of the best airlines for on time performance.

Spirit Airlines sucks. By the time you factor in all of the extra fees they aren't cheaper than their competitors. It's something like $60 for a carry-on bag. Also, in their fine print is a condition that they can bump to a different flight on a different day. Yep, just move you.
Do people say it's bad because everything has a fee to it? It's not like they hide that fact. A little research will tell you that Spirit is a no-frills airline and just about everything has a fee attached to it.
Yep. Basically this. Spirit is a budget airline and they don't shy away from it. It's excellent if you want to save money and travel light. People who complain probably arrived at the airport with two bags and a large carry on. With that said they are lightyears ahead of Ryan.
It’s true, but all airlines experience this. Spirit definitely is worse than the big carriers, but as an example I just searched and found 2022 results, delta ranked 1st on time 81%, while spirit ranked 6th on time at 73%, higher than Southwest and JetBlue. Spirit ranked 10th in cancellations though, at 2.5%.
Spirit typically only flies once a day (or less, maybe 3 or 4 times/week) to each destination. If they have to cancel their flight for some reason, then you can get boned. In the event of a major problem, their customer service is basically worthless and will certainly be swamped.
I've had 32 flights on Spirit now, and only one has gone disastrously bad. The far far majority have left and landed on time. I think 26 of them have been on time or usually 15-20 minutes early.
