At the core of biology and other sciences lies a problem-solving approach called the scientific method. The scientific method has five basic steps, plus one feedback step: Make an observation. Ask a question. Form a hypothesis, or testable explanation. Make a prediction based on the hypothesis. Test the prediction.
Problem-based learning (PBL) is an exciting way to learn biology and is readily incorporated into large classes in a lecture hall environment. PBL engages students in solving authentic biological case problems, stimulating discussion among students and reinforcing learning.
Our chapter includes a description of basic terms and central concepts and also contains in-depth discussions on the analysis of means, proportions, ratios, probabilities, and correlations. We also address issues related to sample size, normality, outliers, and non-parametric approaches.
12 Αυγ 2023 · The common thread throughout scientific research is the use of the scientific method, a step-based process that consists of making observations, defining a problem, posing hypotheses, testing these hypotheses, and drawing one or more conclusions.
31 Οκτ 2023 · The scientific process typically starts with an observation (often a problem to be solved) that leads to a question. Let’s think about a simple problem that starts with an observation and apply the scientific method to solve the problem.
13 Οκτ 2017 · Research about defining relevant biology problems, how students solve biology problems, and what conceptual knowledge they employ while solving biology problems is still in its formative stages.
Error Analysis - BIOLOGY FOR LIFE. All scientific investigations have errors to some degree. An error is the difference between a measurement and the true value being measured. Please note, errors are not mistakes due to experimenter carelessness, sloppiness or being rushed.
