Not Enough Items (or NEI for short) is a core utility mod and a successor to both Too Many Items and Recipe Book. It appears in-game whenever the Players Inventory or other GUI that contains an inventory is opened, and allows a Player to view crafting recipes and usages of the majority of the items in the FTB Modpacks.
This mode is mainly used for testing or recuperation of items lost through bugs, as it allows the player to spawn in items, heal themselves, change the weather and time of day, attract items, and delete items.
NEI, or Not Enough Items, is a mod made by ChickenBones that is a successor to the popular mods TooManyItems and Recipe Book. NEI modifies the existing Inventory GUI by adding an icon list of items to the right which is searchable via a text box at the bottom of the screen.

The NEI Plugins mod is an addition to Not Enough Items that was created by mistaqur. The source and install instructions can be found here, along with a list of compatible mods. Its primary function is to make recipes that are part of a mod appear in NEI, such as using the BuildCraft 3 Assembly Table to make gates.
