The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF; Māori: Te Tauaarangi o Aotearoa) is the aerial service branch of the New Zealand Defence Force. It was formed initially in 1923 as a branch of the New Zealand Army, being known as the New Zealand Permanent Air Force, becoming an independent air force on 1 April 1937.

We operate a number of different aircraft types used for both training and operations.
The government establishes the New Zealand Permanent Air Force (NZPAF) with a strength of four officers and seven other ranks; its Territorial attachment – the New Zealand Air Force (NZAF) – has around 100 members.
The Royal New Zealand Air Force is comprised of the Air Component Command and Air Staff. We also have a number of personnel in Defence Logistics Command (Air) who provide logistics support for our Air Force.
