Schools will normally reopen during the week in which 1 September falls. However, they may open in the week before this, in order to meet the overall requirement of at least 166 days at post-primary level or 182 days at primary level.

School Calendars. School Year 2023/24. October 2023 mid-term break. All schools will close from Monday 30th October 2023 to Friday 3rd November 2023 inclusive. Christmas 2023. All schools will close on Friday 22nd December 2023, which will be the final day of the school term. All schools will re-open on Monday 8th January 2024 .
Irish School Holidays. The dates for the school terms, mid term breaks, Christmas, and Easter are standardised. Click here for the exact dates for both the current school year and the coming school year. Every school must be open for a minimum of: 183 days at primary level. 167 days at post-primary level.
Below is the agreed school calendar for 2025/2026. Contingency arrangements have been put in place within the standardised school year to deal with unforseen school closures. Parents should be aware of these contingency arrangements if booking holidays.
