GTL Products. GTL products represent a pioneering innovation to increase the supply of highly-demanded liquid hydrocarbons. Pearl GTL products are virtually sulphur free and have practically no contaminants such as heavy metals or aromatics.

The Pearl GTL is a gas to liquids (GTL) plant based in Ras Laffan, Qatar. It converts natural gas into liquid petroleum products. It is the largest GTL plant in the world.
We opened the world’s first commercial GTL plant, Shell MDS, in Bintulu, Malaysia in 1993 and the world’s largest GTL plant, Pearl GTL, in Qatar in 2011. Our Bintulu plant in Malaysia celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2018, highlighting the potential longevity of such an investment.
Our range of GTL Fluids and Solvents grades are sourced from the world-leading Pearl GTL plant in Qatar. The scale of the facility helps to ensure strong security of supply, while a global logistics network supports the fulfilment of orders in local markets.
There are two GTL plants in operation in Qatar. Oryx GTL is a Joint Venture between QatarEnergy (51%) and Sasol(49%). Pearl GTL, on the other hand, is a revenue sharing project between QatarEnergy and Shell.
