Doing this, regardless of the airport or airline, allows you ample time to check in, clear security, and locate your boarding gate.

Bags or items that are larger than this won't be able to fit in the airplane overhead or underneath the seat in front of the passenger. If the bag you're using is larger than these dimensions, it will need to be checked.
