After a nightmare of a time trying to reach Frontier customer service, I took matters into my own hands. Had to file a fraud claim with my bank after +3 hours of trying to get a refund after a cancelled flight.
I believe when they say there's a charge for check-in they're referring to checking into your actual flight. During the chat keep typing “agent” to reach a real person. Alternatively, go to their customer service sight and file a complaint. They are pretty good about responding within 3-4.
