  1. We were there in October a couple of years back for a fortnight and we had lovely weather for the first week but torrential rain for most of the second week. Others who were there for different weeks reported OK weather throughout.

  2. If you read one of the many topics on weather, you will understand that weather in Madeira is totally unpredictable for more than 2/3 days. October is begining of Winter so even though you can get some sunny days, it is likely to be less predictable than during the Summer months.

  3. We’ve been twice in October & had good weather both trips. It was definitely hot enough to sunbathe & swim. The evenings were a bit chilly, especially last October. We had no rain & it wasn’t too windy.

  4. In October, Madeira enjoys a mild autumn climate characterized by average high temperatures of around 25°C (77°F) and average low temperatures of around 19°C (66°F). These temperatures provide a comfortable range, whether you're out exploring the island's lush landscapes or relaxing by the sea.

  5. It's rarely cold in Madeira unless you venture high up. In October daytime temperatures should be warm, maybe even hot, evenings may be cooler by then, but probably not actually cold. You can get rain at any time of year - hence the greenness of the landscapes - but rarely for prolonged periods.

  6. Been to Madeira three times at the end of October. The first in 2006, was heavy showers but still managed to get in some swimming and sunbathing. In October 2007 it was slightly better and last year 2010 was the best.

  7. We are looking for a sunny destination for a very last minute holiday between 2nd and 18th October this year. Is Portugal likely to be warm enough to swim and sunbathe or do the temperatures drop? I have read mixer reviews. We aren't fussy about where in Portugal we go, but would like a beach destination. Thanks.
