15 Ιουν 2009 · In the last newsletter, I promised to go through a method to analyze the threat posed by tropical cyclones (tropical depressions, tropical storms, and hurricanes) by hand plotting information that is readily available in public advisories. This method is called the 1-2-3 rule.
We really like uneven proportions, when we dress in a 1:1 ratio (halves) we find it looks blocky, boxy and unflattering. Using a 1:2 ratio where we have a longer proportion and a shorter proportion (1/3 or 2/3) will elongate your body and provide a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

The lines are going to hit at different places depending on what you are wearing. It can be a bit confusing to understand at first, but the more you practice, the easier and more intuitive it becomes.

The 1-2-3 rule relies solely on avoiding the radius of 34 KT winds in a tropical cyclone and does not take sea heights into consideration. Vessels with lower sea keeping limits should also make adjustments to the 1-2-3 rule in order to minimize exposure to seas that will dangerously hamper ship stability and maneuverability.
