4 Μαΐ 2023 · BMW has issued a “Do Not Drive” warning today for 90,000 vehicles built between 2000 and 2006 that are already under recall for a defective Takata air bag. Owners of these vehicles should park them immediately and contact BMW for more information.
Recently, vehicles from 19 different automakers were recalled to replace driver and passenger airbags made by auto parts supplier Takata that may explode and cause serious injury or death. Certain BMW models from 2000—2015 may be affected.
4 Μαΐ 2023 · As the propellant ages and takes on moisture, it can fail to properly inflate the airbag during a crash and may even throw metal shrapnel around the vehicle interior.
The airbag may deteriorate over time, and if deployed, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator body to burst, and metal fragments could pass through the cushion material, causing injury to occupants. The BMW M3 vehicles affected by this recall were fitted with Takata airbags and manufactured between 13 February 2012 and 28 December 2014.
