1 Μαρ 2024 · Runway lights enable safe and efficient airport operations during takeoff, landing, and taxiing. These lights typically indicate the runway edge, threshold, centerline, and touchdown zone. Some runways have approach lights and descent guidance that direct pilots during landing.
Airport lighting systems provide a standardized layout of positional lights and colors for pilots to reference both in the air and on ground. Airport lighting helps the pilot locate and define the runway and airport environment. Airport lighting is not continuous at airports with minimal traffic to save money when not in use.
Runway guard lights consist of either a pair of elevated flashing yellow lights installed on either side of the taxiway, or a row of in-pavement yellow lights installed across the entire taxiway, at the runway holding position marking.
