Preorder meals are only available in the premium cabin on certain flights. You can choose your meal between five days and 24 hours before your flight. On select flights, preorder closes 48 hours before departure.
Special meal service is available on most flights over 2,000 miles. If meal service is on your flight, you can request a special meal before and after booking. Not all special meal options are available for international long-haul flights.
If special meals are available on a flight, you will be able to make a special meals request during the booking process after signing in to your MileagePlus account. You can also use united.com or the United app to add a special meal request to an existing reservation.
On United -- without more specific flight information -- it's been my experience that the inflight meal is served about an hour into the flight, and then an arrival snack about an hour before landing.

Food on United Airlines international flights includes a complimentary three-course meal with salad, bread, a main course, and dessert.
