  3. Understanding how consumers represent outcomes and weigh different decision criteria is critical to consumer behavior research. Construal-level theory articulates how psychological distance alters the mental representation of inputs and the effective weight given to " high-level " and " low-level " criteria.

  4. This paper reviews two different conceptualizations of problem recognition, suggests that a synthesis of the two approaches would provide a fuller understanding of problem recognition than either approach taken alone, and provides a preliminary empirical test of the synthesized approach.

  5. These stages are: recognition of need or problem, information search, comparing the alternatives, purchase and post-purchase evaluation. This simple model clearly illustrates and explains how the consumers make a purchasing decision.
