Roby Speedway Track Info. Located in Hammond, Indiana (a few feet from the state line at Indianapolis Boulevard and 107th Street - I-90 goes through the site today), the track was also known as Lakeside. It was a 1 mile oiled dirt oval, and was built in 1920.

Between 1920 and 1936, cars raced at what was then known as the Roby Speedway, a mile long dirt track located from 108th to 112th Streets that ran parallel with State Line Road. Over time there were six fatalities at the speedway and, in one incident in 1936, a wheel broke loose and flew into the stands injuring spectators.
Located between 108th and 112th Streets just west of Indianapolis Blvd. One-mile dirt track. Operated from about 1920 through 1936. Backstretch ran parallel with State Line Road., probably only a 100 feet or so east of the Illinois/Indiana border. Stands condemned and track torn down in 1937.

The site first opened in the 1800s as a horse racing track and this track began a long history within the area of race tracks. It’s location had the back stretch run beside the Indiana and Illinois border. Auto races first began on this 1 mile track in 1920 when it ran a motorbike event.
