Southwest advertises that there is 100% free inflight entertainment, such as movies and live tv that we can stream on our own devices. Does this require us to pay the $8 fee for inflight wifi or is it actually free?
I've found if the wifi is working, you can watch live TV, which will include a few games. Most if not all of the streamed content is sent from a local server on board the aircraft not through the sat antenna. Multiple streams would saturate the bandwidth anyways so it is cached locally.
