What is two-step verification? Two-step verification (sometimes called multi-factor authentication) helps protect you by making it more difficult for someone else to sign in to your Microsoft account. It uses two different forms of identity: your password, and a contact method (also known as security info).
You'll have the option to confirm your identity via email, phone or the Microsoft account App. After you've completed this step, you'll need to use an app-specific password to log in via the Outlook App.

23 Ιουν 2020 · It's easy to see on microsoft.com/en-us/account/authenticator that the primary use is meant to be to make logging in easier - 2FA is optional. If you go into "learn more", it also notes you can use the authenticator for one-time passwords.
