29 Ιουν 2022 · The two most popular bullet weights for 5.56 are 55 and 62 grains. From our chart you will see that the best twist rate for 55 grain ammunition (e.g. PMC M193) is 1:12” or 1:10”. The best twist rate for 62 grain ammunition (e.g. M855) is 1:8”, 1:9” or 1:10”.

4 Σεπ 2015 · A barrel with a 1:8 twist rate is quite versatile and should be able to shoot just about anything except perhaps very lightly jacketed and low mass varmint rounds, and tracer rounds. Basically anything from 55 grain (or a bit lighter) up to rounds with projectiles too long to fit into an AR magazine.

Common wisdom for 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem. indicates those barrels with a rate of rifling at 1:9 or slower (1:10 etc.), in general, perform best with lighter bullets—60 grains or less.
20 Σεπ 2018 · It is absolutely true that heavier, longer bullets in the 69-85 grain flavors like faster rifle twists of 1:8, or 1:7. When someone tells you, “if you want to shoot some operator level Mk262 77 grain OTM ammo, you need a 1:7 twist”, believe that they have your best interest at heart.
While 1:8 twist rate barrels can fire most slugs with adequate accuracy, the best results occur when firing 60 to 80-grain bullets. 1:9 Barrels with a 1:9 twist offer a slower spin that works best with short, lightweight bullets (40 to 62-grain projectiles).
