I had a bag delayed once and they sent me a link to track it like a FedEx delivery. I was able to leave instructions to leave at the front desk of the hotel so I could retrieve it in the morning. After talking to the front desk clerk who received it overnight, it was literally an uber driver.
I work baggage service, and the vast majority of our delayed bags are delivered within 24 hours of the missed flight. We can sometimes utilize other airlines to get them to our small, regional airport within a few hours of the claim being opened.
