EASTERBROOK, Circuit Judge. Indianapolis enacted an ordinance defining "pornography" as a practice that discriminates against women. "Pornography" is to be redressed through the administrative and judicial methods used for other discrimination.
American Booksellers Ass'n, Inc. v. Hudnut, 771 F.2d 323 (7th Cir. 1985), aff'd mem., 475 U.S. 1001 (1986), was a 1985 court case that successfully challenged the constitutionality of the Antipornography Civil Rights Ordinance, as enacted in Indianapolis, Indiana the previous year.
Proposed by nationally prominent feminists Andrea Dworkin and Catharine MacKinnon, neither from Indianapolis, and supported by Hudnut, the language of the Indianapolis ordinance defined pornography as the subordination of women. City-County Councilwoman Beulah Coughenour offered to sponsor it.

1 Ιαν 2009 · The decision in American Booksellers Association v. Hudnut, 771 F.2d. 323 (7th Cir. 1985), upheld a federal district court opinion declaring unconstitutional an Indianapolis anti-pornography ordinance that made it illegal to depict women in sexually subordinate roles or positions.
American Booksellers Association v Hudnut cized by conservative libertarians. It was excoriated as a tool of both right-wing fundamentalism and left-wing political correctness.
