There are two ways to apply for TAP. If you are a NYS Resident refer to this Step-by-Step Process to apply for TAP: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This online application process allows you to apply for New York State's Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). TAP is available to students attending a SUNY, CUNY or not-for-profit independent degree-granting colleges on a full or part-time basis.
The New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) helps eligible New York residents attending in-state postsecondary institutions pay for tuition. Part-time TAP helps eligible New York residents attending in-state, post-secondary institutions on a part-time basis pay for tuition.
How to Apply. From the FAFSA confirmation page, follow the Apply Now link for New York state-based financial aid. Visit hesc.ny.gov/tap for eligibility criteria, application deadlines, and a link to the application.
HESC Account: Identity Verification. HESC verifies all student identity from their FAFSA application data when they first create their HESC User ID and PIN. If the identity does not match any FAFSA on file, then the student will be asked to provide a NYS DMV-issued ID to validate their identity.
