The C Minor is a seven-note scale, also called Natural C Minor. Colored circles mark the tones in the diagram, with darker color highlighting the root notes. The root notes are always C tones. In the two-octave pattern, the first root note is on the 6th string, 8th fret. 2 octaves.
Since C#m is a minor chord, you’d use the minor chord formula to build your chord, combining the root note, minor 3rd, and perfect 5th. Your root note, C#, will be the starting point of your scale. From there, add your minor 3rd (E), and your perfect 5th (G#).
