2 Ιαν 2022 · Gastric Outlet Obstruction (GOO) describes a mechanical obstruction of the proximal gastrointestinal tract resulting in an inability in the stomach to empty. Patient will present with epigastric pain, postprandial vomiting, and early satiety, and will often be severely dehydrated and hypovolaemic.
Bowel obstruction can be complete or partial. Gas in the rectum, as seen in this case, is a feature of incomplete obstruction. If bowel obstruction is seen on an abdominal X-ray then a CT is indicated to help plan treatment - see image below.
