24 Νοε 2023 · Application forms for registering private higher education schools, private basic schools offering the National Curriculum, and private schools providing an International Curriculum are available on the MOE website starting 13 November 2023. The three directives encompass broadly similar provisions, with minor variations.
The government regulates private schools through the Private School Registration Act and commits significant budget to the education sector, including 1.4 trillion kyats for 2014-15. The number of private schools in Myanmar has grown rapidly from just over 50 in 2012-13 to 585 in 2016-17, an increase of over 100 schools per year.

When the Government shut down all universities in 1996 in reaction to the student boycott, families started to look for alternatives.
Myanmar’s private education sector was opened up to increased foreign investment on April 20, 2018 following a notification issued by the Myanmar Investment Commission. This allows foreign firms to fully own and operate institutions that offer either the curriculum prescribed by the Ministry of Education (MoE) or an international syllabus.
