The Vanuatu Education and Training Sector Strategy (VETSS) 2019-2030 was developed to align with and respond to the strategic direction and intent of the National Sustainable Development Plan 2016 to 2030 (The People’s Plan).
The present report presents the findings of the independent appraisal of the Vanuatu Education and Training Sector Strategic plan (VETSS), following the GPE - UNESCO IIEP Guidelines for Education Sector
Reports and Policies. The Ministry of Education and Training has formulated and implemented a number of policies relating to the educational sector over the years. Show entries.
The formal education structure comprises: • Early childhood care and education (ECCE) (ages 4 and 5); • Primary school education, Years 1 to 6 (ages 6 to 11); • Junior secondary school, Years 7 to 10 (ages 12 to 15); • Senior secondary school, Years 11 to 13 (ages 16 to 18); and. • Post-secondary education and training (PSET) (age 19 and over).
With funds made available for Vanuatu Education Road Map (VERM) activities, we hope to bring the education, management and facilities of early childhood centres up to sustainable minimum standard and be able to provide a safe and caring learning environment for the children.
There are seven years of compulsory education starting at age six. The primary female-male ratio is 0.95:1 and the secondary 1.09:1 (2009) with a primary pupil-teacher ratio of 24:1 (2008). Some 71% of pupils complete primary school (2008). The school year starts in February.
