On January 6, 1996, a revenue train collided with an out-of-service train, both consisting entirely of Breda 3000-series cars, at the Shady Grove station, fatally injuring the operator of the revenue train.
17 Μαρ 2021 · USA: Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has awarded Hitachi Rail a contract to supply the next generation of trains for the federal capital’s 165 km, six-route metro network. WMATA had selected Hitachi in October 2020 as preferred bidder for up to 800 vehicles designated the 8000 series.

The 2000-Series and 3000-Series rail cars were manufactured in the 1980s by Breda Costruzioni Ferroviarie S.p.A. (Breda). As manufactured, there were 76 2000-Series cars, and 290 3000-Series cars.
5 Μαρ 2024 · Hitachi Rail will assemble the 8000-series trains in Hagerstown, Maryland, with additional options of up to 800 total cars. The goal is to replace our oldest trains, the 2000- and 3000-series from the 1980s, to create a more reliable fleet.
