Delia Owens (born April 4, 1949) is an American author, zoologist, and conservationist. She is best known for her 2018 novel Where the Crawdads Sing. Owens was born and grew up in southern Georgia, where she spent most of her life in or near true wilderness.
Delia Owens, Ph.D., B.S., and Mark Owens M.Ed., B.S., have conducted research and conservation projects on endangered species in Africa for 23 years. They met in the early 70s as graduate students at the University of Georgia, and soon discovered that they shared the dream of saving part of Africa's vanishing wilderness.
Delia Owens is the co-author of three internationally bestselling nonfiction books about her life as a wildlife scientist in Africa — Cry of the Kalahari, The Eye of the Elephant, and Secrets of the Savanna.
