If you ask me Kappa is unironically the highest quality of FGC discussion on reddit. Heck, despite it's presentation and reputation it doesn't even have half the amount of horny posts that r/Streetfighter does.
originally it was a place for fellow otaku to discus the japanese folklore turtle monster, the kappa. Then some of the more incel users and mods started uploading fighting game content, because lol japanese amirite?
r/Kappa became the FGC's 4chan/b/, with the trash of the community being praised and asked. And since it was the biggest open forum we had, yes, it ruined the reputation and visibility of the FGC. Especially to the first-timers, either convinced that this was what the FGC was supposed to be (it wasn't), or just fled, and never came back.
