The Nice ( / ˈniːs /) model is a scenario for the dynamical evolution of the Solar System. It is named for the location of the Côte d'Azur Observatory —where it was initially developed in 2005—in Nice, France.
The Nice model, proposed in 2005 by astronomers Alessandro Morbidelli, Harold Levison, and others, describes a period of instability in the early solar system. It suggests that gravitational interactions among the giant planets— Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune —led to significant orbital rearrangement.
