This review presents history, properties, and environmental fate of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT). Industrial methods of TNT production are discussed, as are several energetic derivatives of TNT. The performances and applications of these TNT derivatives are also described.

TNT (2,4,6-trinitrotoluene) contains three nitrogens per molecule and two molecules per unit cell, resulting in six magnetically inequivalent nitrogens. The v + lines are all grouped between 800 and 900 kHz. There are two crystal forms at ambient temperature, monoclinic and orthorhombic.
