The reasons for this are clearly pointed out in some of these verses. First John 3:4, for example, says that sin is contrary to the law of God.

There are four prominent musts in John 3. · The Sinner’s must: you must be born again (John 3:7). · The Savior’s must: so must the Son of Man be lifted up (John 3:14). · The Sovereign’s must: He must increase (John 3:30). · The Servant’s must: I must decrease (John 3:30).
Nicodemus is mentioned three times in this Gospel: (1) He came to Christ (John 3:2); (2) He spoke for Christ (John 7:45-52); and (3) He honored Christ (John 19:39-40); and in each instance the circumstance of his coming to Jesus by night is mentioned.
The law measures our duty, and measures therefore the degree of guilt when it is not obeyed. The law determines what is right in all cases, and, of course, what is wrong when it is not complied with. The law is the expression of what is the will of God as to what we shall do; and when that is not done, there is sin.
The word synoptic means “see-together” and the first three Gospels present the life of Jesus in pretty much the same format. The first three Gospels focus more on what Jesus taught and did; John focused more on who Jesus is. · John shows us who Jesus is by highlighting seven signs (miracles) of Jesus.
