My account was hacked today and this was my immediate question. The CS agent gave a vague explanation of the hackers using sophisticated means to access the account. Which means AA's cyber security isn't up to par.

The person taking the flight probably isn't the one who got into your account. You can have a situation where someone gets access to an account, and sells an unknowing person a "cheap flight" for cash, using your miles.
