9 Ιουν 2023 · Socket Drive Sizes. Metric and Standard (SAE) sockets come in three available drive sizes: 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, and 1/2 inch. The measurement refers to the size of the square used to attach the to socket to a wrench or a ratchet.
The following is the standard size and dimensions for American square tool drives per ASA B5.38. Click on images to enlarge.
1/2″ Drives. 1/2″ drives are the most common drive size for heavy-duty jobs that require more torque or force. These drives are typically used for 19mm socket sizes. For example, if you’re driving lag bolts into walls for mounting an LED TV, a 1/2″ drive is the best choice.
Refer to the socket size chart and match the dimensions of the bolt or nut with the corresponding socket size listed. Ensure compatibility and consider factors such as metric or imperial measurements.
For example, a 1/2 inch socket is equivalent to a 12.7 mm socket (0.5 x 25.4). To convert metric to SAE, divide the metric size by 25.4. For example, a 13 mm socket is equivalent to a 0.5118 inch socket (13 / 25.4).

18 Ιουν 2024 · Select the drive size of ratchets and sockets based on the diameter of the bolt or nut. For fasteners around 1/4″ or 6mm, use the 1/4″ drive. For hardware approximately 3/8″ or 10mm, choose the 3/8″ socket set.
