When you fly within New Zealand, infants travel for free. While you need to book their flight, they won't receive a ticket or receipt as they don't pay a fare or occupy a seat. When you're flying internationally, infant fares are 10% of the adult fare.
If you're travelling on a seat only or seat +bag fare on New Zealand domestic or if you're on a seat only fare on Tasman and Islands flights, you can select your desired seat in advance using paid seat select.

When flying around New Zealand, children travelling alone are required to have a seat+bag booking. This is to reduce the number of health and safety incidents occurring onboard which are due to unaccompanied minors being unable to safely carry their bags onboard or stow them in the overhead lockers.
