Simply go to the My Trips tab and follow the instructions to access your reservation. If you are accessing your reservation more than 24 hours prior to departure you can click the Add or Modify Seats link and complete the form.
Just because you automatically get assigned two seats together for one adult and the child, doesn't mean there will be two more seats nearby that you can buy later. If you want to sit together, buy the seat reservations.

I flew Spirit several weeks ago, they charged me when I signed in for boarding passes, 24 hours before the flight. I also had Big Front Seats for the return trip and they would only let me pre-assign 4 of the 6 seats. I had to have the other 2 assigned at the airport. When I got off the plane, I heard someone else complaining about the same thing.
