This research contributes to the broader question of Vacant Heritage: can you find indicators for building typologies that will become obsolete and are there general concepts for revitalisation? In this book, eight different vacant department stores from the V&D will be analysed.
The historic department store of Vroom & Dreesmann forms a beacon for the center of Amsterdam. The complex consists of a combination of different buildings which have been rebuilt several times over the last hundred years.
In this book, eight different vacant department stores from the V&D will be analysed. All buildings are located in large or small cities throughout the Netherlands: Leiden, Alkmaar, Amsterdam, Haarlem, Amersfoort, Maastricht, Enschede and Dordrecht.
5 Ιαν 2020 · The historic department store of Vroom & Dreesmann forms a beacon for the center of Amsterdam. The complex between the Rokin and Kalverstraat consists of a combination of different buildings which have been renovated several times over the past hundred years.
This project explores the impact of Vroom & Dreesmann (V&D) on the city and city life of Leiden over time. The strategy to re-vitalize this building is two-folded. On the one hand, the collective memory of and associations with V&D are used in order to revitalize the building.
