Volts per meter (V/M) explained. The easiest way to measure and understand RF radiation is to stick to volts per meter (V/m). It’s typically easier to understand than microWatts per square meter (µW/m²). In all our examples on this website, I also stick to V/m when I talk about RF radiation.
Volt per meter is the standard unit of electric field (E field) strength. Symbolically, it is represented as V/m. An E field of 1 V/m refers to a potential difference of 1 V between two points 1 m apart. In base Standard International ( SI) units, 1 V/m is the equivalent of 1 meter per kilogram per second cubed per ampere.
This next calculator is used if you know the antenna factor. Many antenna vendors will provide this in a data sheet. The unit of AF is dB/m.
