The New York Central Hudson was a popular 4-6-4 "Hudson" type steam locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO), Baldwin Locomotive Works and the Lima Locomotive Works in three series from 1927 to 1938 for the New York Central Railroad.
The NYC was the pioneer of the 4-6-4 wheel arrangement and ultimately used nearly 56% of all the Hudsons ever produced. Many consider the Hudson to have been the most beautiful steam locomotive ever built.

The first 4-6-4 in the United States of America, J-1a #5200 of the New York Central Railroad, was built in 1927 to the railroad's design by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO).
