Description. 3,4,7,8-Tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline acts as a metal-chelating agent for transition metal-catalyzed processes. It is also used in the preparation of heteroleptic cationic iridium (III) complex viz. 3,4,7,8-tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline-bis [2- (2',4'-difluorophenyl)pyridine]iridium (III) hexafluorophosphate.
