What is two-step verification? Two-step verification (sometimes called multi-factor authentication) helps protect you by making it more difficult for someone else to sign in to your Microsoft account. It uses two different forms of identity: your password, and a contact method (also known as security info).
Using Authenticator as a way to sign in. If you have turned on passwordless, two-step, or multi-factor authentication for your account, use the following steps to sign-in: Go to the site where you want to sign in. Enter your username at the sign-in prompt and select Next. Select Send notification.
Sign in to your work or school account and then go to your My Account portal. Select Security info in the left menu or by using the link in the Security info pane. If you have already registered, you'll be prompted for two-factor verification. Then, select Add method in the Security info pane.
