The vanity of the days of darkness - 11:8 The vanity of childhood and youth - 11:10 Indeed, the key word in this book is “vanity”. It occurs 35 times in 29 verses. It means “futility, uselessness, nothingness.” But a key phrase to be noted is “under the sun”. It is found 29 times in 27 verses.
Ecclesiastes 11:10. Therefore remove sorrow — Sensual and disorderly lusts, which he elegantly calls sorrow, to intimate, that although such practices at present gratify men’s senses, yet they will shortly bring them to intolerable sorrows.
Chapter 1 – This book is Wisdom literature, written by Solomon, a man God gave wisdom and discernment greater than any man ever. The book of Ecclesiastes establishes Solomonʼs theory of the meaning of life, there is nothing new under the sun to give man the meaning of life.
Ecclesiastes is one of the most elusive books in the Bible. Its message seems profound, but at the same time empty, gloomy and even full of boredom and despair.
10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. 11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?
10 I have seen the travail that God hath given to ye sons of men to humble them thereby. 11 He hath made everything beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, yet cannot man find out the work that God hath wrought from the beginning even to the end.
