1/2” Gold Bond® XP® Fire-Shield C™ Gypsum Board was designed to provide extra protection against mold and mildew compared to standard gypsum board products. The face paper is folded around the long edges to reinforce and protect the core, and the ends are square-cut and finished smooth.
1/2 in. (12.7 mm) enhanced proprietary Type X panels for interior wall and ceiling applications. Comply with ASTM C1396, Standard Specification for Gypsum Board, for 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) and Type X gypsum wallboard.
About This Product. USG Sheetrock Brand Firecode C Panels comply with Type X gypsum panel requirements and feature a noncombustible gypsum core. Long edges of the panels are tapered for easy finishing, allowing joints to be reinforced and concealed with Sheetrock Brand joint treatment systems.
1/2“ Gold Bond® eXP® Interior Extreme® Fire-Shield C™ Gypsum Panels consist of a moisture-, mold-resistant gypsum core encased in a coated, specially designed fiberglass mat on the face, back and sides. It is available in a Type C core to provide additional fire-resistance rating when used in tested systems.
ToughRock FireGuard X is a UL classified Type X gypsum board for fire-rated wood and steel-framed assemblies with a designated fire-resistant rating.

As an added benefit, Type X drywall absorbs sound slightly better and is slightly stronger than conventional 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch drywall. Type X vs. Type C Drywall.
