The fruit of the Spirit is that which naturally grows out of the operation of the Spirit, in which it naturally results. The expression "fruit" is, however, generally used by St. Paul in a good sense.

The fruit of the Spirit is not something that springs out of our old nature, amended, educated, refined; not something that we create in ourselves by our own will or effort, but something that is wrought in us by Divine power and energy.
