THere are 2 kinds of insurance -- TRIP insurance, which covers medical AND other situations that force cancellation or cutting-short of a planned trip. This is fairly costly... and is usually used by people who pay in advance for a guided tour or a cruise etc.
For an international flight, what is a good company to choose for travel insurance - trip interuption, cancellation due to cause, medical evac. etc. Even though the airline reps speak english, I am not able to understand them very well to call and ask.

Insurance reviews of all types (not jusy holidays) seem to be either 'great' because the cost was low or the website easy to use, OR 'awful' because they wont pay out for claims.

Medical transportation is most important considering the remoteness. I came across Detour Travel which has a policy I like. The cost, however, is about 2/3 less than compable policies.

Daughter had a return to USA flight home from Portugal cancelled due to this widespread "technology issue". ticket was booked via expedia, it was several different airlines ... portugal to spain to france to USA.
